Hi, Killerkelly. Thank you for your question and welcome to the Petco Community. Here are some tips from our animal care specialist on traveling with a bearded dragon.

  • Traveling with a reptile causes a lot of stress. If it is not necessary, it is best to keep the beardie at home.
  • If you must travel, you need to have the beardie in a secure travel habitat. Depending on the length of the trip it is ideal to have a travel habitat about the same size as their normal habitat. If they can move any décor the beardie feels comfortable with, that is safe for it to travel with, that may help mimic normal conditions.
  • You need to keep the beardie warm with the heat or some sort of portable heating source. Anything to reduce stress should help to try to keep the beardie from showing aggression.
  • This website has some other good tips. Try this website too.

You may also want to check out our new "Ask a Vet" feature in the Petco Community for tips of foods. A link will appear on the right-hand side of the screen where you can input your question. Best wishes!

Re: Vacation in october with my beardie

hmmm...well I use Flukers Medley Treat as a way to substitute their live food. Flukes Medley Treat are Freeze-dried mealworms, grasshoppers, and crickets. They work very good for my beardie so I do not have buy live worms every 2 weeks. Also once you get to colorado its best to give him/her some veggies so she doesn't get sick of the worms. Now the carrier I use has to be ordered online. My beardie is around a year old and she fits perfectly in there. Now the carrier I use is this one: But I also do recommend to pack up her lighting and UVB lighting just for safety. Also do not forget to bring a small face towel or blanket so she/He can be warm...
