Daisy's Tips for Throwing an Epic "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty!

By Daisy the French Bulldog on Dec. 10, 2015

I'm sure you know by now that I am a party animal (literally, I am an animal that LOVES to party)! I love attending parties, but I love hosting them even more. There is one party that I look forward to hosting every year: my annual "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty! Halloween is my most favorite holiday of the year. I love all of the festive decorations and the beautiful costumes; but mostly, I love the delicious treats (they don't call it trick-or-TREAT for nothing)! I know Halloween is a scary holiday for some fur-babies out there, but I hope that by following some of my tips for throwing the perfect "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty, even the scaredy cats in the group can enjoy a little spooky fun this year. Of course, when I have a party to throw, I always head straight to my local PETCO!!!

Since I threw such a huge bash this year, I stole borrowed my human's van (aptly named "Van"essa) so I could haul all of the amazing party supplies that I picked up from Petco. [Sidenote: while I was posing for this amazing "Van"essa haul photo, my neighbor Sam walked by. He's a really big golden retriever. And I growled at him because I thought he was trying to steal my Beggin' Strips. My human says I have to write an "I'm sorry note" now. Don't worry, I'll make my human send a gift basket or something.]

So, first things first - invitations. Since this was the "Howl"-O-Ween bash to end all bashes, I decided to skip the paw written invitations and go with flyers. Plastered all over the neighborhood. And in every dog house that I could find. Don't worry, I made sure my humans would be out of town for the bash. They had no clue that it ever happened!

Once I made sure that the entire southern hemisphere was attending my super amazing "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty, it was time to set up. And by set up I mean completely cover my humans' house in every Halloween decoration that I could find. It doesn't take much to set the mood - some nice holiday-themed decor and plenty of Halloween themed treats and toys from the Bootique at Petco will get all guests in the mood for a spooky soiree. Oh, and make sure you wear a witch hat while you set up your party. Seriously, it's super important.

After all of the decorations were up it was time to put on a costume and wait for the pawty to start! Come on doorbell, ring already!

Annnnnd the first one to the party was, of course, my pug sister Lilo. She takes party animal to a whole new - and embarrassing - level. But she showed up in an awesome Taco costume from Petco, so of course I let her in. I really wish she would have worn the pinata costume, though.

So while we were talking tacos and bacon, the doorbell rang again.

This time it was my Shih-Tzu sister, Mimi. She's pretty grumpy, so she really didn't say hi to anyone. At least she wore a costume. Too bad I bought the same one. And it looks better on me.

In fact, she's so grumpy that she poured herself a drink right away. Seriously, if you look up "party pooper" in the dictionary, I am pretty sure her picture is there. She poops at every party.

The party was starting to get rowdy, especially with the pawsome playlist that I put together. As usual, my sister Lilo the pug had to break it down on the dance floor. In her taco costume. In front of everyone. It was almost as embarrassing as the beanie baby background on her Twitter profile.

Thankfully, I was saved by the bell. The doorbell that is. This time it was my dreamy neighbor-pug Truman. I quickly removed my sister from the dance floor and got as close to Truman as possible. I think he was playing hard to get.

Once all of the guests had arrived, it was time for a super-pawsome "Howl"-O-Ween pawty game! This game is one of my favorites, and I bet your precious pet will love it, too. It's called bobbing for hot dogs! Clever, I know. The set up is simple: boil several hot dogs until fully cooked and let cool completely. Then, have your human cut the hot dogs into several bite-sized pieces and put the pieces into a bowl of water. Actually, these festive water bowls that I found at Petco are PERFECT for this game!

Once the set up is complete, the party-goers take turns trying to grab a hot dog out of the bowl of water with their mouth. Or, in my case, I tried to grab all of the hot dogs with my mouth and gave no one else a turn. No one. My guests were spectators to the wonder that is Daisy bobbing for hot dogs. I'm sure they'll thank me one day.

OK so I gave Truman a turn, but only because he is super dreamy. Oh, and notice the pawsome prizes in the background. I picked those up at Petco's Bootique, too.

After all of that hardcore game-play, it was time for some eats. I had a great spread at my pawty: Blue Buffalo Boo Bars, some boo-tiful Halloween themed treats, and - of course - BEGGIN' STRIPS! The best part? I found all of these delicious snacks at Petco. Talk about a one stop shop!

I also decided to serve some homemade (dog friendly, of course) Cinnamon Pumpkin Bread with "Caramel" Topping. Here's my recipe so that you can serve some at your "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty, too! (Oh, and to see pictures of me enjoying my treat in style, click here to visit my personal blog). [Remember, I am not a veterinarian even though I often play one on social media. If you are unsure as to whether this recipe is right for your pet, please contact your pet health professional before giving your pet this pawsome treat.]

The "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty was a success, and went on for hours until a few neighbors decided to take a cat nap on my humans' dining room table. And my sister Lilo the Pug started to swing from the chandelier. That's when it was clear that the pawty was over. Plus, I was exhausted! But since my humans had no idea that I threw this epic pawty, I had some cleaning up to do before I could take a snooze. Good thing I picked up some bath wipes and poop bags while I was at Petco. Take it from me, do NOT throw an epic "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty WITHOUT poop bags. Especially if you invite a party pooper like Mimi. Just saying.

Once the house was cleaned, it was time to sleep. My super pawsome "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty was amazing, but I was exhausted.  So I snuggled up with my most favorite Petco Bootique Toys, and took a nap. I hope you find my pawty-throwing tips helpful. I'd love to hear all about your "Howl"-O-Ween Pawty successes!

Daisy, it looks like your party was fantastic! It was so sweet of you to give that handsome Truman a turn at the hot dogs.

Dang, I need to hire Daisy to do my next party! Puppy Bowl, maybe? Love those costumes (I saw the taco in Petco the other day, and I almost bought a sushi costume for my cat, Bobby Flay O'Fish). Smiley Happy I think I might try the bobbing for hotdogs game with my corgis for Halloween! Thanks for the ideas!
