Puppy Head Trauma

Hello, I am devastated to explain the circumstances of my question but here it goes. I am currently caring for a litter of puppies and upon the mother landing wrong on one of the males (four weeks) his head had immediately swelled. We left for the emergency vet within seconds as this was very alarming. They drained the swollen portion of his head, and placed him on pain killers as well as oxygen. Upon arriving home, we have found that he will not stop whining. I realize that it is out of pain, but it is still very concerning. Is this normal for a puppy post-head trauma? And if anyone has experience with a situation similar to this, or ideas on how to make him more comfortable, please share. Thank you xx

Re: Puppy Head Trauma

Hi seekingadvice.

Welcome to the community, I'm sorry to hear about your puppy's recent injury. We recommend keeping in close contact with your vet about your pup's condition and behavior so they can advise you on how to best care for them during this difficult time. We hope they start feeling better soon, please come back and share an update with us.

Hi,
I really hope your pup gets better. Is your vet giving him pain medicines? If not, I suggest you ask about it .

Re: Puppy Head Trauma

Wow,that's sad. When I was a kid we had a litter of St Bernards. It was her first litter and had the usual big dog litter of ten! She was large and actually smothered, most likely by laying on them, all but four males that did fine. Just wanted to let you know good people have pet accidents too. Does the mother dog comfort the pup? It sounds like he's afraid and most likely in pain. Keep talking with your vet.
