Dog harnesses, is it okay to leave the harness on my dog?

I am wondering if it's good leaving my dogs harness on, or should it be removed after walks and such?  She sent keen on sitting still to put it on each time we go out...

Hi, Lola's Human. Welcome to the Petco Community and thank you for posting. Here is a great article on how and when to use a harness.  Also, you may consider taking the harness off so that when you use the harness it signals to the dog that it's time for a walk or to go outside. Best wishes!

I wouldn't advise leaving it on all day every day. Depending on the harness type, it could rub her skin raw under her front legs. Also, it can make lounging around a little uncomfortable at times. At the very least you should take it off during the night. She can learn to sit still while you put her harness on, just google how to teach your dog the "wait" command. it can be quite useful in many different scenarios.

Our Husky LOVES the harness.
I think it works a bit like a Thundershirt for him.
We leave it on quite a lot for that reason, but we do take it off after a few days because huskies have stupid fur that gets matted otherwise. After a quick brush he is happy to dive back in the thing.

My bully has a harness as well, but also has sensitive skin so I don't leave it on quite as much. His harness also has a little too much hardware.
I think quite a lot of it has to do with your dog and how cozy the harness is.
*Training should be fun for both ends of the leash!*.

This article didn't answer her (which is also my question) question. The article only describes types of harnesses and weighs the pros and cons of each. We are wondering if leaving a harness on 24/7 is ok, and (my additional question) if so which one is best for comfort?

I would take it off. They should know that it is only for walks and honestly my dog does not like his harness on unless on a walk because it seems uncomfortable.
